Equine Pathway

The Orchard Reins & Roots Journey– Learning Through Horses

The Equine Pathway at The Orchard provides a structured, hands-on approach to learning through working with horses.

Designed for young people who may not thrive in traditional classroom settings, this pathway supports learners to build confidence, develop emotional regulation and gain independence through real responsibility and meaningful routine.

Learning takes place within a calm, rural working environment, where horses provide a powerful and responsive context for developing communication, resilience and self-awareness.

A Structured Pathway for Growth

At the heart of the pathway is the Reins & Roots Journey , our bespoke equine development framework for learners aged 8–25.

Delivered as a 12-week intervention or extended into a personalised long-term placement, this pathway provides a clear and structured foundation for engagement, development and progress.

From Development to Vocational Progression

As learners grow in confidence and competence, opportunities are available to progress into accredited pathways.

As a City & Guilds Approved Centre, The Orchard offers:

  • Level 1 Horse Care

  • Level 2 Horse Care

  • Level 3 Horse Care & Management

  • Coaching pathways (where appropriate)

These qualifications provide clear progression into further education, apprenticeships and employment within the equine and land-based sectors.
